About Dan Roberts
I am a Cognitive Therapist and Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist with a private practice in East Finchley, North London. I help people with a wide range of issues including depression, problems with panic and anxiety, difficulties related to trauma in childhood or as an adult, problems in relationships or with parenting, personality problems, anger management, substance abuse, addiction, dissociative disorders and eating disorders. I offer schema therapy at my East Finchley practice.
I am also the founder of Schema Therapy Skills, which provides training workshops at my office in East Finchley. These workshops focus on specific skills from schema therapy that are extremely useful for and applicable to therapists working in other modalities. They run as either one- or two-day workshops and group sizes are small (maximum eight people), so there is plenty of time for questions, discussion, skills practice and help with therapeutic challenges and your most difficult cases.
I have also taught schema therapy and CBT to both trainee and experienced counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists and other health professionals in a variety of organisations including SDS Seminars, the NAOS Institute and for the London Foundation Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy, as well as mindfulness techniques to staff and students at University College School.
Before specialising in cognitive and schema therapy, I initially trained as a counsellor, with a three-year counselling diploma at the Psychosynthesis Trust, followed by a one-year Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy & Counselling at Regent’s University. I later added a Certificate in Cognitive-Behavioural Coaching from the Centre for Coaching. This style of coaching is based on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and was my introduction to cognitive therapy.
I later completed a BPS-approved Master Practitioner Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from SDS Seminars Ltd. I practised cognitive therapy from 2010 to 2018.
In recent years I have come to specialise in schema therapy, a longer-term approach than standard CBT which is designed to help people with longstanding or hard-to-treat problems. I have been practising schema therapy since 2015 and achieved accreditation as a schema therapist in 2017.
I completed my schema therapy training with Schema Therapy Associates and have achieved advanced accredition with the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). I am also a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a Member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
I have completed a number of training courses in compassion-focused therapy including Introductory and Advanced Skills in Compassion Focused Therapy, as well as Compassion Focused Therapy for Depression, with CFT’s founder Paul Gilbert. And I have a strong personal and professional interest in mindfulness meditation, especially mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). I have maintained a daily meditation practice for a number of years and use mindfulness techniques with many of my clients, as they are so helpful for a wide range of problems.
